How to take a 90° side profile photo.
Front photos carry proportion and symmetry. Everything about projection — nose, chin, lips — comes from the side photo, and only a true 90° profile supports it. Here is the exact setup, and the fails that void a reading.
1 · True 90 degrees, ear visible
Face exactly sideways to the lens: both lips stacked, one eye barely visible, ear fully showing. A 10–15° turn toward or away from the camera already distorts projection, so off-angle photos are rejected rather than estimated — see what a reading needs.
2 · Two meters back, rear camera, timer
Arm’s-length selfies exaggerate the nose and compress the chin through wide-angle distortion. Have someone else take it, or prop the phone up and use a timer, from at least 2 meters with the rear camera.
3 · Head level, neutral expression, lips closed
Look straight ahead with the head neither tilted up nor tucked down — chin position changes every projection reading. Lips gently closed, teeth unclenched, no smile: expression shifts the lip-to-nose-chin relationship the pipeline measures.
4 · Hair back, jaw and chin uncovered
Tie hair fully back so the ear, jawline and chin contour are visible, and remove glasses. Occluded contours cannot be landmarked; affected readings come back unavailable for that photo, not guessed.
5 · Soft frontal daylight, plain background
Face a window or open shade — even, shadow-free light so edges read cleanly. Harsh side sun carves false contours. A plain wall behind you keeps the silhouette traceable. More on light in the photo-quality guide.
Instant fails
Mirror selfies, front-camera shots, tilted heads, smiling or talking, hair over the jawline, heavy filters or beauty mode, and screenshots of other photos. Any of these voids the profile readings before analysis starts.

Why does Aureon Labs need a true 90-degree side photo?
The profile pipeline reads nose and chin projection and lip position — geometry a front photo cannot show. Even a 10–15 degree turn distorts those projections, so off-angle photos are rejected rather than estimated.
Can I use a selfie for the profile photo?
No. Arm’s-length selfies add wide-angle distortion that exaggerates the nose and compresses the chin. Have someone else take it, or prop the phone up and use a timer, from at least 2 meters away.
What if my hair covers my ear or jawline?
Tie hair fully back so the ear, jawline and chin contour are visible. If the contour is occluded, the affected readings are marked unavailable for that photo.
